The Arak purse – Wet forming leather test #1

I finally seized the chance to experiment with wet forming leather. Since it was Tommy’s birthday and I had a bottle of Arak to share with him, I decided to try to mould the leather into a nice giftwrap.

I milled the outside moulds on the shopbot

I put the bottle of arak between sheets of leather and the outside moulds

Unfortunately the bottle broke from the pressure of the slightly too tight mould

Which meant that Tommy had to drink his birthday arak from a rescue bowl

The shaped leather

I brought the wet formed leather to a tailor in Jogja which added a zipper and sewed the two pieces together.

Next challenge is to make shoes
